February 21, 2011

CHEF’S SECRET
If you take pride in your cooking or are very particular about the right ingredients selection for your favorite recipe, don’t forget the impact that water has on your results. Besides the odor and taste that can come with tap water, a resent study has shown that nearly 7 our of 10 tap water samples contain some traces of organic herbicides or pesticides. Often we take it for granted or forget that water is an ingredient in our recipes.

An other dimension of having clean pure water is to wash your foods properly before you prepare them. With recent outbreaks of salmonella and e-colli contamination in many raw foods, this becomes even more vital. I am sure you understand how good quality pure water can help to improve the taste of the foods and drinks you served. Under sink water filters with at least 5 or 6 stage filtration are a great solution to all your kitchen water needs.

Find a top quality water filtration and purification system that is perfect for you at many online water filter sites.

Do you have Hard Water? Do you need a Water Softener?

August 17, 2010

“Hard” water is a subjective thing to most people. However, when water has a hardness exceeding 10-15 “grains”, a water
softener makes a significant difference. Less than 10 grains of “hardness” is usually acceptable and does not cause
significant degradation of household utility water uses. The first thing to do is have your water tested, or just call
your water provider -they will know and the hardness of your water.

Water with 5-10 grains of hardness would be water most homeowners would be excited about in many parts of the country.
If your water tests less than 10 grains of hardness, the benefits of a water softener are truly questionable. From 10-15
grains it may be of significant benefit.
Greater than 15 grains means that you will notice a significant difference in water conditions with a water softener
and a reduction in scaling or spotting.

Water with greater than 20-25 grains of hardness usually means that the standard water conditioner may not be adequate
for your needs. A more robust water softener with commercial grade and size components Water softeners offered at
hardware or “big box” discount stores are normally out of the range of compatibility with serious water hardness
and should therefore be avoided.

Water Hardness Measurements
grains/gallon        ppm mg/L         Softness of the Water
0-1              0-17.1                    Very Soft
1-3.5           17.1 – 60                Slightly Hard
3.5 – 07.0        60 – 120                Medium Hard
7.0 – 10.5        120 – 180                     Hard
> 10.50           > 180                        Very Hard

What you buy is often not what you get with bottled water!

August 16, 2010

A four year scientific study recently made public by the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) found that bottled water sold in the United States is not always filtered and often not purer or better than most tap water..

The NRDC’s study included 103 brand names of bottled water and more than 1,000 bottles of water.
Almost one third of the bottled water tested contained levels of contaminates including synthetic organic chemicals, bacteria, and arsenic (at least one sample exceeded allowable limits under either state or bottled water industry standards or guidelines).
In fact, about a quarter of all bottled water is actually bottled tap water, according to government and industry estimates (some estimates go as high as 40 percent).

The Solution? Make your own truly pure water for only pennies per gallon, not dollars per 16 oz. bottle. Check out some of the options at www.HomeWaterPro.com
